Yoko in the Window

Inspiration hit me last night while I was brooding over my broken 30-degree blades and not being able to finish my current project. I found a supply of 45-degree blades, which are far more difficult to make small, precision cuts with. I wasn't even going to do anything until my supply of good blades comes in from Japan, but this idea inspired me to act.

This is my favorite anime girl posing in my favorite work of art (Salvador Dali's Girl in the Window). I had long since thought about doing something with Girl in the Window, but usually thought I'd wait til I found a suitable girl to replace in the window. I know it should have been obvious to someone of my Yoko-love status , but I have always been afraid of doing Yoko disservice with my completely non-existent drawing skills.

With the girl's pose in the original piece, it came to me last night that I could do Yoko using the girl's outline as a guide. Using about five different angles of Yoko from the side and behind, I drew this 100% myself, with no photoshopping or anything, just a pencil and eraser on paper. For my first time drawing a full body from ANY angle, I'm extremely proud and satisfied with this outcome.

My only regret is not having enough patience to completely cut out all/most of the ripples in the water, but that's only a very small part of why the original work from Dali speaks to me. There is a sadness I feel in the Girl in the Window, and I imagine Yoko looking out the window after all the fighting is done, remembering Kamina...
